The Central Taranaki Safe Community Trust (CTSCT) was established in 2009 following the success of the Home Safety Project which saw thousands of smoke alarms installed in Central Taranaki homes. The Central Taranaki Victim Support group then became the CTSCT and a memorandum of understanding was signed with partners to ensure there is a portal for Community ahd Home safety within our District. The Trust employs a Community Safety Officer to co-ordinate Neighbourhood Support and Community Patrols. The Community Safety Officer is housed at the Stratford Police Station.
HOME SAFETY PROJECT
A very successful 2012 Home Safety Project which saw, in partnership with ACC and Work and Income, our ambassadors visiting 3,491 households visited in Central Taranaki and 649 safety aids given to homes to prevent falls at home.
STRATFORD COMMUNITY PATROL
The Community Patrollers are volunteers who every Friday and Saturday night are rostered on to assist Police as 'extra eyes and ears'. The Trust owns a vehicle which patrollers use to patrol 'hot spots' and notify Police of suspicious activity. The patrollers are in constant contact with Police at all time whilst a patroller is monitoring the CCTV cameras from the Stratford Police Station. The patrollers are proving to be a huge asset to Police and are working well to reduce crime.
INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITATION
To be awarded International Accrediation we have had to show that we have an ongoing programme of community safety that enhances the social, cultural, environmental and personal safety of its residents, contractors, visitors and community participants.
